Top Actors was introduced in VAST Cluster 2.0.6.
The Top Actors page in the VAST Web UI shows you the most active client users, NFS exports and client machines. A graph for each category shows the bandwidth, IOPS and metadata IOPS for reads and writes from each user, export or client.
The data is sampled every minute with the count reset to zero after each sample. The metrics are average statistics. For example, IOPS is calculated as total IOs since the last sample time divided by seconds since the last sample time.
By default, the page shows the current top actors. From VAST Cluster 2.1.0 you can also view dates and times in the past.
To view the Top Actors page, click the menu icon at the top left of the page () and select Top Actors from the menu.
The Top Actors page displays:
Metric selectors. Choose between:
BW (MB/s). Bandwidth in MB per second.
IOPS. Number of IOs per second.
MD IOPS. Metadata IOPS.
(From VAST Cluster 2.1.0) Date and time selector. Use this to jump to a specific time and date in the past.
(From VAST Cluster 2.1.0) Number per page selector. Use this to select how many top actors to display in each category.
(From VAST Cluster 2.1.0) Date and time navigator. Use this to browse back and forward through the history and to jump back to the current time.
Categories of top actors:
Users graph. Shows the most active client users. Includes NFS and S3 I/Os.
Exports graph. Shows the most active NFS exports.
Clients graph. Shows the most active client machines. Includes NFS and S3 I/Os.

Hover over the right section of a bar to see the BW or IOPS or MD IOPS for read operations only.
Click the number per page selector.
Select an option from the dropdown. You can display the top 10, 25, 50 or 100 'actors' in each category.
Supported from VAST Cluster 2.1.0.
To jump to a specific date and time, click the date time selector, select a date from the calendar drop down and then specify the time in hours and minutes below the calendar. The display jumps to the closest available sampling in the history to the time you selected.
To flick through the top actors's history, use the date and time navigator:
Go backward one sampling in the history.
Go forward one sampling in the history.
Jump to the present time.
