BMC upgrade is an option that you can run when upgrading the cluster software version. Both the cluster version and the BMCs are upgraded.
Interrupting BMC upgrade mid-flow is likely to cause DNode failure. Ensure a continuous supply of AC power throughout the process.
If needed, request the bundle file from VAST Data Support.
Download the release bundle to your local machine.
From the left navigation menu, select Infrastructure and then Clusters.
Select the Actions button for the cluster () and then select Upgrade.
In the Upgrade Cluster dialog, click Upload a file and browse to the package file that you downloaded.
Enable the BMC option. This setting includes BMC firmware upgrade in the upgrade process. The VAST Cluster software will also be upgraded.
Optionally, you can also enable the following:
Force. Skips version validation for both software upgrade and BMC upgrade
OS. Upgrades the OS of the CNodes at the same time.
Cold. Performs cold upgrade, disrupting operation and installing all CNode containers at once instead of the default non disruptive upgrade.
Don't enable any of the other firmware upgrade options.
Click Upgrade and then click Yes to confirm.
The release package is now uploaded to the cluster. The Activities icon indicates the upload progress at the top of the page. When the upload is complete, the upgrade of the software and the BMCs begins. You can monitor progress on the Activities page.
Log into the CNode on which the VMS is running and download the release package file to the
vast/bundles/directory. The file name of the downloaded bundle should be <file>.vast.tar.gz, where <file> is the name of a specific build.
Connect to the VAST CLI and run
cluster upgradewith the
--bmc-upgradeoption. If you wish to skip version validation, include the
--forceoption. Do not include other firmware upgrade options.
vcli: admin> cluster upgrade --build-package /vast/bundles/50181_image.vast.tar.gz --bmc-upgrade
You can monitor the upgrade progress in the command output.
