All VAST Cluster deployments begin by careful planning with the guidance of VAST Support engineers. Some configurations are supported by VAST's Easy Install utility, which simplifies the software stage of the installation. Others require more direct guidance or involvement from VAST Support. Follow the steps here to plan and complete your VAST Cluster installation.
-
Contact VAST Support to plan your installation. Your VAST Support Engineer will ask you to provide information required for detailed planning of your installation. You can read about the various installation options in this guide. In brief, you may be asked to choose and provide details such as:
-
Account contact details
-
Cluster name
-
The number and models of CBoxes and DBoxes to include in the cluster
-
The transport protocol(s) per network.
-
IP addresses and ranges for management, internal, IPMI and virtual access interfaces.
-
DNS configuration
-
Switch configuration and connection to external network
-
-
Your VAST Support Engineer will prepare an installation plan. The plan will include (among other aspects) the port assignments for your cable connections, and the software configurations to be applied to the hardware components. Your VAST Support Engineer can advise if Easy Install is supported for your installation and if switch configuration (which is optional in Easy Install) should be done via Easy Install or otherwise.
-
Your VAST Support Engineer will arrange for your hardware to be ordered and shipped. When your shipment arrives and you are ready to install the hardware, follow our Hardware Install Guide in conjunction with your installation plan and the guidance of your VAST Support Engineer.
-
When hardware installation is complete, you are ready for the software installation of your cluster. With the approval of your VAST Support Engineer, if your configuration is compatible with the Easy Install utility, follow our Software Install Guide in conjunction with your installation plan to complete the installation.
