The CERES DBox must be connected correctly to PDUs before it is connected to the VAST Cluster network as part of the installation of a VAST Cluster cluster.
Use the two power cables supplied for the CERES DBox. See Unpack the CERES DBox for details.
-
Connect one CERES DBox power cable from each PSU to one PDU, taking care of all of the following:
-
After plugging everything in, make sure that there are no alarms on the PDU's, and that the phases show nominal operating amperages. Check the Green LED on the PSU to make sure it is a solid green. If it is Yellow/Orange/Amber or off, check that both ends of the power cable are secure and reseat the PSU if necessary.
For the location of the LED, refer to CERES LED Indicators.
Caution
DO NOT plug in the high speed uplink or management cables that are supplied for completing cluster installation to a live network now! The network must be offline to make sure duplicate IPs don’t appear and cause issues with VAST's or your network when the CERES DBox powers up.
Caution
Power balancing is important! You must ensure that you do not overload existing circuits/phases. Also, if you are installing more than one DBox, special care must be taken to ensure you do not overload even previously empty phases/circuits. Note that some PDU's have their phases/circuits laid out differently. Two common configurations are:
-
Phases are grouped together and will have markings identifying the ports on specific phases.
-
Phases are color coded, meaning the power receptacles are White, Grey, Black. In this scenario, you must check the coloring and balance accordingly. Phases are NOT grouped together in this case.
