Use the provided rail mounting kit to mount the CERES DBox enclosure to the rack. The instructions for using the rail mounting kit are provided in the shipping box.
Caution
The CERES DBox with the SSDs inserted and the rack mount rails fitted is a heavy load weighing approximately 90 lbs. Use team lift or a server lift to lift the CERES DBox to the mounting height. The server lift is the recommended lifting method.

Determine the correct rack layout using the cluster installation plan created by VAST Data, and the guidelines given in the VAST Cluster Rack Mounting Stacking Conventions.
-
The installation plan created by VAST Data contains detailed information about the rack mounting plan. Use the information given in the plan to rack and stack.
-
Coordinate with your VAST SE to make sure of adequate power, space and cooling for the enclosures in the rack.
Note
If you are expanding an existing cluster, your SE will provide detailed information on updating your switches and adding nodes.
-
Use the rack layout created by VAST Data during the site survey to rack and stack the CERES DBox.
-
Read and follow the safety guidelines given in Safety and Handling Instructions for the CERES DBox before you commence racking and stacking.
-
Install the bezel on the front of the CERES DBox.
Caution
Sometimes the DBox drives can come loose in shipping. Before the DBox is racked, physically push on every drive on both sides to make sure nothing is loose. This will prevent issues later with the system finding the drives or carriers being damaged during racking. CBox drives should also be checked to make sure the boot drives are not loose.
-
Place the DBoxes under CBoxes and number from the bottom up. Depending on rack space, you should leave space for additional CBoxes and DBoxes.
-
When racking the two MLX switches and the management switch (if applicable): Typically the MLX switches are mounted between the CBoxes and DBoxes to limit cable lengths while the management switch is typically at the top of the rack. However, this is discretionary, depending on the available space.
