The Prediction tab gives a dashboard-style visualization of the historical and future capacity utilization of the various clusters. The historical data is used to make predictions about the capacity utilization of the various clusters in the future, along with the confidence interval, in the right pane, to show the percentage of confidence in the prediction. You can drill down to the directories and subdirectories in each cluster to view the projections for each subdirectory. This feature is only available for clusters running VAST Cluster 4.5 and later. The largest 9 to 10 directories are shown. The files and other directories are grouped together under Small Files and Directories.

In the All Clusters view, the historical storage capacity utilization of all the clusters (1) in your installed base are displayed in the left pane as a stacked histogram, color coded by cluster. The X-Axis represents the date, and the Y-Axis represents the capacity utilization in TB. Use the sliders (9) to set the date range for the visualization. The prediction is based on the range selected in the sliders. Use the sliders to exclude known anomalous behavior from the prediction. The dotted vertical line (2) represents the current (today's) date.
-
Hover over any cluster visualization to view a popup displaying the date and time stamp, name of the cluster and the capacity usage at that point in time. Click in any date to pin the date. This freezes the data in the popup window, even when hovering over other dates.
The color-coded dashed trend lines (8) to the right of the current date line show the prediction trendline of the storage capacity for specific clusters over time. In the right upper pane, a circular graph (4) shows the utilization of specific clusters or folders of the total utilized storage capacity of all the clusters. This chart is only visible when hovering over or pinning historical storage utilization data. When hovering over the prediction trendline, a histogram showing prediction ranges is displayed.
-
Hover over the projection trend line to see a graph in the right pane with horizontal bars that indicate the lower and higher range of the predicted storage capacity usage for the cluster at a specific date. For example, if the projection predicts 15TB to 25 TB of storage capacity usage for a specific cluster on the specified date, a color coded bar is shown in the right upper pane. This bar represents the prediction range, longer bars indicate that the prediction range is larger.

There are three Capacity Type options (3) available:
-
Physical, displays the physical storage capacity utilization and predictions.
-
Logical, displays the logical storage storage capacity utilization and predictions.
-
Unique, displays the unique data that belongs to a directory or subdirectory, which means this is the storage space gained if you delete the directory or subdirectory.
-
Select (
) Path confidence indicators to the right of any cluster folder or subfolder in the right lower pane to see the confidence intervals along the projection trendline. The narrower the confidence interval band, the higher the confidence in the accuracy of the prediction.
-
Select (
) Open subfolder at the right of any cluster, folder or subfolder to drill down further into the Element Store. To navigate back up the parent folders, click the links to the folders at top of the prediction window.
