Modifying QoS Policies from the VAST Web UI

  1. From the left navigation menu, select Element Store and then QOS Policies.

  2. Click ActionsButtonGUI2.png to open the Actions menu for the policy you want to edit and select Edit.

  3. Change the settings as needed:

    Name

    The name of the policy.

    Mode

    Changes the mode of provisioning quality of service per view:

    • Static. Enables configuration of maximum allowed amounts of BW and IOPS.

    • Used Capacity. Enables limiting of maximum BW and IOPS per unit of used logical capacity. For example, you can allow for 3 read IOPS per GB of used capacity. Static limits are also configurable and define boundaries of performance allowance.

      This mode requires that a quota is configured on the view.

    • Provisioned Capacity. Enables limiting of maximum BW and IOPS per unit of logical capacity as provisioned by the soft limit of a quota on the view path. For example, you can allow for 1 MB/sec of read BW per GB of the capacity limit configured in a quota (the soft limit capacity). Static limits are also configurable and define boundaries of performance allowance.

      This mode requires that a quota is configured on the view.

    Limit By

    Changes the parameter(s) by which to limit service:

    • BW and IOPS. Enables limiting of service according to bandwidth (BW) and IO per second (IOPS).

    • BW. Enables limiting of service according to BW only. When this option is selected, the fields for setting IOPS limits are inactive.

    • IOPS. Enables limiting of service according to IOPS only. When this option is selected, the fields for setting BW limits are inactive.

    Static limits

    Performance limits per view. Maximum limits define maximum provisioning in the absence of resource contention.

    Max Read BW

    Maximum read BW to provision. Enter a value and select the measurement units from the Scale dropdown.

    0 means no limit is set.

    Max Read IOPS

    Maximum read IOPS to provision.

    The size of a single IO for the purpose of the limit is 1 MB. In other words, the number of IOs per request is obtained by dividing request size by 1 MB.

    Max Write BW

    Maximum write BW to provision. Enter a value and select the measurement units from the Scale dropdown.

    Max Write IOPS

    Maximum write IOPS to provision.

    The size of a single IO for the purpose of the limit is 1 MB. In other words, the number of IOs per request is obtained by dividing request size by 1 MB.

    Per Capacity limits

    Performance limits per unit of either used logical capacity or provisioned logical capacity, depending on the provisioning mode. Units are stated per limit.

    Read BW per GB

    Maximum read BW (in MB/s) to provision per GB of used logical or provisioned logical capacity, depending on the provisioning mode.

    Read IOPS per GB

    Maximum read IOPS to provision per GB of used logical or provisioned logical capacity, depending on the provisioning mode.

    Write BW per GB

    Maximum write BW (in MB/s) to provision per GB of used logical or provisioned logical capacity, depending on the provisioning mode.

    Write IOPS per GB

    Maximum write IOPS to provision per GB of used logical or provisioned logical capacity,depending on the provisioning mode.

  4. Click Update to save your changes.

 

Modifying QoS Policies from the VAST CLI

To modify a QoS policy from the VAST CLI, use the qospolicy modify command.
